Shipping at the Railroad

Of course, in the fall, we went up to the railroad with a herd and back to pick up another.  We'd take herds of steers first and then we'd ship the pastures of heifers.

I didn't put my best horse on the drive.  He was a fox trotter.  You can go a long way when you are tired on a fox trotting horse.  He wouldn't break his stride.  We'd come south when we finished shipping.  The wagon would done be going south.  They'd let some boys go with him to open gates and help him cross the river.  But we'd come south and we'd have to catch where the wagon was camped that night.  I'd like to ride that old horse going south.  He wouldn't break his gate.
